In our Leading Figures webinar back in September 2020, an anonymised poll revealed that 99% of the 170 leaders present experienced imposter syndrome to some degree. That moment became the genesis of a book we are now co-authoring: Leading with Imposter Syndrome — Why Feeling Like a Fraud Is Your Greatest Leadership Gift.
Most resources teach leaders how to beat imposter syndrome. This conversation takes a different view – that self-doubt, properly understood, can be a source of humility, growth, and better leadership.
About our guest
Peter transformed Gleneagles over 30 years from a seasonal golf hotel into a world-class luxury resort and brand, and later chaired VisitScotland. Awarded a CBE as well as honorary doctorates by Queen Margaret and Stirling universities, he is currently Chairman of Dyslexia Scotland, Hamilton & Inches, and McLaren Packaging.
Peter’s school days were not, by his own admission, the most inspiring – but what happened next is a powerful reminder that self-doubt and success are not opposites. Peter doesn’t see imposter syndrome as something he suffered from – more something he leveraged.
